volvo 240: oem keyless entry retrofit

I picked up a volvo alarm system (9166607) which I believe came in 1997 850 and 1995+ 960, s90, and v90 cars (except for those cars which got the fancy guard alarm II system) and I got this super cool remote (9442982). It makes a cute little chirp when you press a button which lets you know that it's working. And when the battery is low and you press a button, it will chirp rapidly 3 times. This is incredibly useful and I don't know why other remotes are not like this. It's also a pretty nice small size. I also picked up a drivers door relay from the same era because I'm not sure if the relays in the alarm system trigger the door actuators or if they're for the horn and the fuel pump or something.

I plan on installing this in my 1992 volvo 240. What are my options for connecting wires these modules? I know the 5-pin green connector on top of the alarm system is a very common connector, but what about the "relay" connectors? Do I just need to gut a volvo 850 relay panel? Are these connectors somehow standardized and available as standalone blocks?

I'm also looking for the wiring diagrams relevant to the alarm system. I might be able to get them from a friend tomorrow though.

I went through the install of Keyless Entry to my 940 a few years ago. It was really confusing at first, but I was helped tremendously by Rich in my thread.
Rich has made a thread and a very helpful PDF explaining the connections for the relay and other parts of the alarm system.
The relay has a different part number, but the main difference on them was the frequencies for the remotes as far as I'm aware (different radio regulations in different countries etc.).
He sent me a few other PDFs via mail later and I can put them on here when I'm back home in the evening.

His thread, which has the PDF with the connections: https://www.turbobricks.com/index.php?threads/vga-2-2-harnesses-connectors-and-wiring.346222/

Man, I had planned on putting a DEI alarm on my 940 to have keyless entry, but now that I know it's prewired for VGA, it'd be a shame to use aftermarket kit.

Here's what I got from Rich back then. Unfortunately most of it is in German, but you can use an online translator.
Maybe they help in some way.

I wouldn't bet on that though, it depends on the year if they are prewired as far as I'm aware.
I only know from my research that 96+ models came prewired here in Europe, so only when the US obviously didn't get 940's anymore.
As there were always significant differences between US and European models (think AC for example, don't have one in my late 97), maybe -95 models there came with the prewired harness as well.

Signalspezifikation.pdf is very useful and seems to have a description for each pin on my alarm system module. Mine seems to be a variant which has "AL2" instead of "AL", and "30K" instead of "30". Both variants are described in that pdf. What I really need is that relay harness! Does anyone know where to get one? I don't see a part number anywhere. And I don't mean the little 5-pin connector on top of the module which connects to the led and sensors.

I finally got around to messing with the module. It was very easy. Just connected power and ground, bumped the ignition wire to the battery 5 times, pressed the button on the remote, and it paired. But I'm just using loose spade connectors on the terminals. Are the connectors somehow standard that I can order online somewhere? Or do I need to pull these from a car?

In the parts catalogue there are two numbers for these connectors, both are NLA: 1307160 (grey for 940) & 3515099 (brown for 960),

However as an idea, I think the fusebox / relay tray connectors could fit - they do not have the lock tab though.

I found one that can still be ordered from gcp.se: https://www.gcp.se/products/9148812
That part no. was used on the very last 940 chassis numbers like 97- onwards or so according to the parts catalogue.
It matches with the spare fusebox I had once (other photo).

Unfortunately shipping from GCP is insanely expensive for single orders even within Europe, but you could call / email VP if they can put it in one of their regular containers.

Easier solution might be to pull them from the fusebox tray if you have a parts / junk car somewhere.

I also found it at: https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/...stribution-centre-9-Pole/1241694/9148812.html

Only thing I'm a bit suspicious with are the tabs on the corners of the connector, if it actually pushes into the relays, but in the end they're just plastic and you could file them off.

No guarantee this works though 😂

Also, does anyone know if the cars this alarm module came with had the functionality where the first press of unlock only unlocks the drivers door and the second press unlocks the other doors? The alarm module has only one output for unlock, but I see that the central locking relays associated with it are pretty complex and some say "2 step" on them. I wonder if that logic is built into those. Any search online for "2 step relay" return results for engine control stuff. Does anyone know what volvo means by 2 step? The relay I'm looking at is part number 9148481.
