  • Hi. Thanks for helping with my kjet issue. I may need to ask you again with some more detail how to decifer what i have and what i dont need. Wire wise.
Hi, it would help if you posted a pic. The sheet metal piece that goes across the front which holds the lights, radiator, horn, and condenser is called the 'core support'. It is one piece. You can get one from the junk yard. The ends where the core support are connected to the front fenders is spot welded in one place on each side, and needs to be drilled out, then riveted to the fenders after installation (underneath the parking light), otherwise it is a bolt-in piece like each fender. If the bumper was pushed in and the shocks collapsed then you may be looking at frame damage where the bumper shock bolt hole is located. Take it all apart and look below hte battery and behind the right headlight to see if the inner fenderwalls are damaged. If not you can just bolt the new core support in place an re-assemble everything
Pete, to add to my last, you also posted a link to your post no. 40 here, at post no. 12:

I don't have nearly as much damage as that fellow, as my hood is fine and both fenders have no observable damage and I used both a ruler and a tape measure to measure the gap between the front part of the fender and the tire, and is the same gap length on both sides. So re Mike Jr.'s post no. 16, does it sound like I need the front end pulled and squared? And is the lower piece that is damaged the "lower sheet metal piece" that the professor speaks of in post no. 9? Again, that's for whatever help you can provide.
Pete, if you don't mind, I would like your help regarding some collision damage to my '87 240 (244). For reference, here is your post no. 40 here:

The primary damage to my 240 seems to be that metal piece that runs just above the bumper and below the headlight(s) and grill (clearly shown in your one photo). I do not know the name of that piece, if it even has a name. Is it simply called sheet metal? And can the piece be purchased or will I need to have a sheet metal worker or some such repair the piece?

Sorry that I don't have pictures, but I don't own a digital camera, only the old style films cameras.
It depends on what year. There are three types, 75-'81, '81-89, and '90-93. The '91 I have was easy, and the car comes pre-wired for the cruise connections. Earlier versions aren't as easy.
I just read that you've installed cruise on your 240, could you help me out?
I need to know which components to get from the donor car, and what else I have to do.
I think its just a drop-in, since I've heard all the wires are run.
    thanks!
