Update: got the IR temp gun and checked everything. Its definitely the sending unit communicating innacurately. Thanks for the all the help guys! I'll get the adapter from culberro and I'll be set!

Excellent, that helps a ton guys! I have mine set in just beyond the beveled lead in for the front crank and aux seal and a bit more for the rear seal. I'm pretty sure I'm not sitting on any grooves...
