AW70 and AW71 are almost completely different...

AW70 and AW71 are almost completely different inside. With how cheap AW71s are I wouldn't bother swapping internals.

My best guess is probably a transaxle setup off of an old Alfa, like a GTV6 or 75. The drivetrain configuration of the 340 is pretty limiting as far as upgrades go.

Just a wild guess, maybe it's averaging power output at the rollers (because AWD) and you're actually putting down twice that? Silly, but maybe believable.
