The blocks are mounted on a disk that rides on the side gears. I wouldn't be too worried about it destroying your diff. Probably half as good as a truetrac for less than half the money.

A stock diff is not worth anything. If you don't like it, take out the unit and pop a new pair of carrier gears on. Otherwise grab another axle for $100 and be on your merry way.

I wouldn't bother with that. If you don't do it perfectly it will promote corrosion. Also, not enough heat gets pumped out for you to notice, especially with the factory Turbo heat shields you have.
