The Beige Bounce Back - Vol242vo's 242

One of the rear wheels had a small bend that?s been repaired now and 1 lip is DONE. First time around polishing a set of two piece wheels, it?s a chore! Still haven?t found the gold paint color for the centers however, I have some fender work before I can mount the rears anyway.

The grill and bezels are repaired and in need of some fresh SEM paint.

For reference, Goldtastic by Prismatic Powders comes pretty close to BBS gold. I had mine clear coated but it's not necessary if you don't want the extra gloss.

Been sick; haven't touched it in two weeks. It might be growing resentful, but I'm not totally sure.

This weekend while tinkering around in the garage, I did a basic mock up of the rear wheels to get an idea of what kind of spacer I’ll need to avoid rubbing on the inside. 22-25mm spacers and lug extensions will do it. I’m sure I’ll have to massage the outer fenders as well...but pretty excited about getting these mounted and moving on to the next headache.

Time to clean up the engine bay, tucking all wiring and moving what I can into the cabin. Wiring will get new looming and mount in between the fenders.

This morning I had a couple of hours to get the harness into the cabin, found a few ‘repaired’ wires that weren’t even soldered or with pinch connections, just a good twist and hardened electrical tape. One of the reasons I like to do this is to make sure everything is how it should be and no surprises down the road.

I ran into a few ends that aren’t connected to anything and I have no idea what they go to...see thread here:

Now to sort through all this wiring, remove what won’t be used.

Tear down progress continues...Removed the intake manifold, fuel pressure distributor and injectors. I also shaved the battery tray and the mounts that were welded to the body.

Need to order:

Head Gasket
Valve Cover Gasket
Oil Seal Kit
Water Pump

The wheels are going to look great on there. I vote for BBS gold personally, very traditional but classy

Thanks man, really enjoying watching the progress you?re making on your 242...definitely going to be a fun ride. We?ll see, they?ll be Gold or Silver centers, not black.

I've definitely stalled out the past few weeks, I need a few hundred more dollars worth of stuff and it'll run. Aaand I just bought another Volvo. :wtf:

We need to get pictures of our Eastern WA beige 242s once we're both running
