240 How much will a new CAT run for CA smog?

'87 240. High NOX readings (previous post with numbers about a month ago).

It looks like a new cat is needed. The last one I got around 5 years ago is toast - I heard the new ones sold in CA are better - how much do they cost, and are they any good, since I'm not shelling out $1200 for an OEM. Or is this something I'm probably going to have to do every 4 years from here on?

Well the car failed nox. So they are requiring you to take it to an exhaust shop and have it fixed right? I believe you have to do that now. I could be wrong, I would just take it to a muffler shop realistically you can get one welded in for around 500. Go on the dmv website I believe the state offers assistance for smog repairs. I could be wrong though

Last one on my wife's '89 245 was around $225.00.

I didn't know they make a "universal" CA model, but according to MangaFlow the do.

Thanks, I have a budget now. Sounds like around $500 installed.

I got mine for $400 installed. It was two weeks ago. Wana buy mine. I don't need smog it for 2 years
