I was recently thinking to myself abut all the people who do ls swaps and occasionally ford 302 swaps into their 240s and how its kind of a no brainer of a swap, but I have never seen anyone do a B8444S is there some sort of complication with these engines because from what I have seen they seem like they would be a good candidate for a swap since it is about 40 lbs lighter than an ls1 and makes about 311hp stock (keep in mind I am talking more so about the s80 version of the engine which didn't have the balance shaft problem.

(I am more than anything just curious when it comes to this since I like the idea of a volvo motor inside of a volvo car)

and if you know of anyone who is doing this swap, link to it would be much appreciated

The engine are meant to be mounted transverse in the XC90s and the S80 V8s, but I think I read somewhere that they used a similar engine in Australian touring cars or V8 supercars-type series.

I'd imagine the complication comes from setting up a DOHC V8 with a serpentine system, and getting an adapter to mount a 'normal' transmission.

My brother and I are using this engine in our project. Hard to describe it as a "swap" since the car was designed around the V8 but I will say that this is an engine that only a mother could love.

There is no rational reason to choose this engine to swap into anything. Exactly zero off the shelf components exist for this thing to adapt it to anything so you'll need to be friendly with a mill, lathe, and a welder to make it work. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying but I wouldn't pick this engine if you are embarking on your first, second, or even third engine swap.

What are you doing about the electronics, such as ECM reflash. The Ford & GM are not a problem as a number of places can do this. I am looking to swap this engine in my 37 Ford street rod. I like the 60 degree for its fit in the narrow engine compartment, also all alum engine, DOHC and its related to Ford (built by Yamaha) plus not something everybody has, also a good looking motor. Not worried about mechanical things as have a machine shop for these problems. Any suggestions on the computer?

Start reading dude.

Nothing exists for this engine. No transmission will bolt up to it. Even finding a standalone ECU to manage it is hard because of 4 cam VCT.

Again, great engine on paper, but it takes a heroic effort to put it in anything other than a FWD/AWD Volvo.

Don't remember the user name. However, he is in the UK if I recall correctly. He is making a manual swapped V8 xc90. As mentioned above. Lots of machine work and fabrication.

LOL. Fair point.

Have a specialist doing the work - can’t recall where we’ve got to on mating these bits together but they seemed on top of it (thanks to a few hints from in here I think).

I’m there next week, will ask them to remind me of the details.

You're gonna want to watch this closely. That motor is not easy to put into another car. And there are no transmissions that fit, although that's not impossible to overcome by a good machinist.

The ECU part of it is more difficult, but there are ECU's out there that can controll 4 cam VVT. To our collective knowledge no one has made the B8444 run on a standalone besides Noble.

Great project Ted. Thanks for dropping that bomb on us to enjoy. A thread in projects would be great to reference if you have some time to make a project thread. A 300hp Amazon will be incredible to drive.

Popped in just now for an update.

Spec is:

- Nissan 350z CD009 gearbox
- Ford 8.8 axle
- Bellhousing to be adapted
- Ford flywheel

ECU is a “DTA T12+”? They’re confident their (external) mapping guru can handle it.
