I continue to want to put a build thread on here but I continue to not do it....not anymore!

I have a 1992 940 turbo that I bought for $1500. I’m calling it the full retard because I’m on a EL-P kick lately and I feel like the name fits with my breakdowns at mountain meet and elsewhere. I’m building this to be a autocross/rallycross/weekend toy. It’s been a lot of fun.

What I’ve done so far:

Innovate Motorsports electronic boost gage/wideband air/fuel
Ipd turbo cam and cam gear
BC Racing coilovers
Bitchin turbobricks sticker

What I’m about to do:
Mustang T-5 swap with a STS machining lightweight flywheel and a stage 2 clutch from yoshifab.

Me doing the tailhousing swap from a gen 4 3.8L camaro this moves the shifter 1 inch further up than the m46, I’ll see if I make any shifter modifications once I get it in. I’m considering doing a how to write up on it when I’m done, considering I haven’t seen one.

This is the video I watched to figure the tailhousing swap

And today I put the clutch pedal assembly in:

The next step will be put it upon jacks and get the slush box out!

Where in South Carolina are you? Happy to see another turbobricker around here. You'll enjoy your 9 series so much more with a third pedal. I know I do. What plans for a turbo?

I live inTravelers Rest, I?ll have to hit you up if I autocross in Charleston. I want to put a 20t in. Kinguawa makes one that has excellent reviews.

So, I've got the slush box out, and have put in the t5, I got a few pictures of how I went about mounting the transmission mount

<a href="https://ibb.co/5Yx7fYR"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/5Yx7fYR/IMG-0407.jpg" alt="IMG-0407" border="0" /></a>
<a href="https://ibb.co/h7j0PGW"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/h7j0PGW/IMG-0410.jpg" alt="IMG-0410" border="0" /></a>
I put a laser level under it, took the mount off marked and drilled a pilot hole with a quarter inch bit. I kept the drill at a 90 angle with the trans brace (which is at a bit of an angle it's self)
<a href="https://ibb.co/K9vBWXr"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/K9vBWXr/IMG-0409.jpg" alt="IMG-0409" border="0" /></a>
Then I put it in and braced it up.

I apologize for the lack of pictures, but I get roped into the project and always forget to post them. Ive now got to take the trans back out, run the lines for the hydraulic handbrake, and put in flywheel, clutch, etc. I've also been modding the shifter because it's still a bit forward. Also for my winter project, I've got a 16t out of a c70 so I'll be installing that as well.

More to come later.

Will be doing this to my 95 940 in the summer. Got lucky on a Nissan T5 which puts the shifter an inch further back from the GM tailhousing, the tailhousing still swaps to the mustang gearbox but without the 17 degree tilted mount, and uses the more common mustang type shifter.

Is the shifter as shown in your pic, engaged in the forward position gears, or center position?

There is lately growing interest in the 7/9 conversions to T5 manuals; you would serve the TB community by showing pics of your tailhousing for the T5.... as well as any shifter offsetting to obtain function.

Whose T5 adapter to the BH, did you use the BNE (Kaplhenke) or other homebrew?

It’s in the neutral position. I’ve since bent it and welded it back together, I’ve still got a little bit of modifying to do to it. There’s a fair amount of butchering going on, I’ll post some pics of the finished product.

A bit of an update, I?ve modified the shifter:

<a href="https://ibb.co/BLqtj63"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/BLqtj63/B6-CA8837-DEE6-47-F7-B0-FD-99590-BFA6-F75.jpg" alt="B6-CA8837-DEE6-47-F7-B0-FD-99590-BFA6-F75" border="0" /></a>

The only thing I don?t really like about what I?ve done (other than my welds look like doo doo) is now I absolutely have to go with a cloth shift boot because the rubber one I have makes it impossible to shift forward.

Installed it and the hydraulic handbrake (I did it because I?d like to learn drifting, they have clinics in Atlanta and myrtle beach and possibly Rallycross)

<a href="https://ibb.co/C0wvJPM"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/C0wvJPM/8-E9-AB788-E270-40-F2-B7-AE-DBF1-CD28443-B.jpg" alt="8-E9-AB788-E270-40-F2-B7-AE-DBF1-CD28443-B" border="0" /></a>

And mounted a racing seat. The stock seat was pretty miserable in the corners.

<a href="https://ibb.co/SXqhw4r"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/SXqhw4r/827-C83-B3-B770-4-BF3-8-AA8-171-B7-A9042-DC.jpg" alt="827-C83-B3-B770-4-BF3-8-AA8-171-B7-A9042-DC" border="0" /></a>

I wish it would quit raining on the weekends so I could make more progress but such is life. I?m going to measure for the driveshaft now and take the trans back out so I can run the lines for the hydraulic handbrake. Post updates soon.

In test fitting my trans to the engine I have had an epic, epic f-up I got way to slap happy with the 1/2 inch impact trying to get the transmission in.

<a href="https://ibb.co/x7m2KGv"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/x7m2KGv/IMG-0719.jpg" alt="IMG-0719" border="0" /></a>

In other news anyone in the Greenville, Charlotte, Asheville area have a +90 engine they'd be willing to let go cheap?

I've never ever seen this kind of damage on a red block.
You did try to mount the bellhouse/gearbox, without fitted correctly and totally to the engine, with a impact (power) tool?

If I see a workshop doing this, I will never give anything to them....
A power tool is to release something.....

good luck, Kay

Damn, that is some serious destruction. I have a 95 940T short block i'd be willing to let go. All it would cost you is the time it takes to pull from the car and the drive down to my place.

I really appreciate that. I was able to get a '93 squirter engine out of brevard nc so I'm trucking along now.
