Vintage What is it that makes the '73 ES dash a different P/N than '72?

Just curious.. Is it the shape, the grain, both, neither? I'm mostly inquiring about the upper portion.

Thanks!

The upper dash pad is the same '70-. The lower pad has a light guide inserted into it to illuminate the rocker switches used on '73 ES's. The pad is different to accommodate the light guide.

It's not shown as a different part in the Volvo parts catalog. VP just added '-73' to the part number so it's not a Volvo thing. Maybe the grain is different on the '73 only lower pad so they sell a different upper pad to match.

Now I'm curious, I'll ask them and see what they have to say.
