Ive joined the brick life (91 740 wagon)

Hello all and thanks for the add!

I have been a euro car guy for a long time (mostly audis and vws) but I have always had a fond place for volvos (grew up in xc70s and 90s my parents had).

I recently moved to bowling green KY and as I am always on CL one day a new car popped up, a Gold (brown ) 1991 volvo 740 wagon. It had 280k miles but zero rust and a fairly straight body.

I went to check it out and after a test drive I picked it up for 800 buckaroos

Everything works on it and I plan on doing some nice upgrades. Its an AW70 non turbo turd that my wife wanted as a project car so most mods will be what she wants (boost, lower the car, nardi steering wheel and some 5 spoke dished wheels....this is why I married here lolol)

Anyways I will be documenting my build thread here and look forward to your guys knowledge!

Nice car! A tip from Sweden, use a heat gun on the bumbers to get the original black look back. Works everytime but be careful not to overheat/melt.

I'm gonna post in this thread because I've owned three 7/940's and three SII Sciroccos so I feel like we're on the same wavelength or something. Currently looking for my fourth of each.

Thanks everyone! Im really considering doing a volvo 850 front bumper to modern up the car a bit. Still on the fence about it though... If I dont I will be doing the heat gun repair for sure!

haha yea! She loves it and has claimed it for herself. She wants some bass as well. We are going to build a nice custom box that fits into the trunk area looking OEM.

thats great! I bought a 92 740 turbo wagon from the auction to flip and my girlfriend claimed it for herself. She loves it!

I just bought bumper paint from the store and painted the bumpers.

you know it It may have a lot of haters but I am doing it in 80s jdm racer style. Oil cooler up front, bigger wing (think voomeran mkii vw), fender mirrors, should be pretty fun when done.

Nice man I like the wheels! I found a guy with everything I need turbo wise (turbo, manifold, DP, injectors, intercooler, etc..) for 300 bucks

UPDATE:

I did what all good turbobrickers would do and cut my springs. Ive only done the fronts so far but will do the rears later this week. I took out 2.75 which puts it quite low but I dont rub on anything and dont have any issues with clearances

I also installed 10" sub in the back and some sony speakers in the door. Much better stereo now

Any links on how to replace the open diff with an LSd would be much appreciated

The easiest option is to find a rear axle with a g80 already in it or pony up the cash for a trutrac differential.
