Andrewhans 240 LS Swap, Going for 8's

Thanks. The slicks are toast and I'm done racing at the track until I get a new pair.

Going to step up to 26x8.5x15. Had worn out 24.5x8x15 on there. I think that having a little bit more tire will allow a better 60'. I also need new shocks up front bc the front lifts really fast then starts to come back down and the rear tires unload and spin.

Really need to start designing some Anti-Squat into the rear suspension. That includes a complete redesign of the system and I'm not really ready to go that route yet with the car.

Going to continue to make small changes and track progress.

The wife surprised me with a set of MT ET Street Drag Radials for a "just because" gift. Couldn't believe she did that.

There's a local "street car" shootout that I will be able to attend now too. They weren't allowing slicks to race so the that fact she bought street tires makes it even better IMO.

So we will see how it does or if I can get it to hook on radials. Should be a fun experiment switching from a 24.5x8x15 slick to a 235/60/15(26x8.5x15) drag radial.

It just dead hooks at a 60 roll now. The acceleration is amazing with these tires. I'm blown away and it is a rocket on the street instead of spin city.

The radials also have the added bonus of providing a huge amount of grip when needing to pull something... like a stuck F250. My truck got stuck in the side yard from all the rain we've been having and the only vehicle that stood a chance of pulling it out was the volvo. Hooked up some straps and pulled it right out. Haha

Car didn't do terrible on the 235 radials. Faster mph and et than I've ever gone but just by a little bit.

New personal best is 6.86 @ 107.8mph with a 1.68 60'. Still working towards a 6.5 or so at 110+

Here are some photos from the StreetCar Shootout I entered. Had a really good time. A $100k+ turbo Camaro from RPM Motorsports ended up winning the whole thing. I made it to the second round at least. I lost to the guy who came in second place. So I don't feel bad at all about it. Almost everyone there had a 275 or bigger tire so I was the massive underdog when it came to tire size.

This is my first round win. I ended up driving around him before the 1/8th was over. It was a close finish bc of my poor 60'.

Here it is lined up against the nitrous Mustang that took second. Local guy who races here a LOT and knows the track very well.

Here am I losing to that mustang LMAO. He was cutting in the high 1.3 to low 1.4 60'. I was around 1.7-1.8 the whole night. He had more tire, better suspension and far better track knowledge. I was very close in power judging by the mph we were both putting down.

Good friend backing me up into the water box and helping me with some drag racing tips throughout the night. I had a really good time.

Just a good shot of the suspension at full drop while rolling out.

Thanks, your build was one of the largest influences for this car. Simple, cheap and effective is how I saw your build.

Turning it up more and going for a 9 next.

I think it has a very high 9 at 140mph in it with a little more power and a 1.6 60'. All my current ET at mph records have been at 15psi. Its held 20psi on test pulls with stable fuel pressure so we will see what happens at the track if weather holds up.

Went out to Coastal Plains today because all of my close tracks had been rained out.

Drove an hour and a half to get to the track on drag radials, dropped tire pressure to 18psi, ran 5 tens in a row with the slowest being a 10.68@136, and drove back home without an issue.

Had an excellent time there and Im getting closer and closer to my 9 sec pass and 140mph goals. I should have been more aggressive on the 60' because the track was hooking really well.

I'm also past the limit of my 6psi wastegate springs. With 100% duty cycle I can touch 19psi and then SLOWLY taper to 17.5psi by redline. Going to step up to an 8-10psi spring so I can hold a stable 20psi to redline.

The little gen 3 4.8 is hanging in there! 367k miles and counting on the entire engine minus camshaft(Jegs 200580), valve springs(PAC 1218), a single used piston rod combo(unknown miles), and one new cam bearing(the rest are the originals). Re-used TTY headbolts, re-used tty rod bolts, stock headgaskets.

Just wanted to keep you few that have been following since the start updated!

Changed out wastegate springs and got my boost by gear working.

Weather ****ed me this weekend as I was in a certain kind of mood. All tracks are closed near me due to rain. I even had a trailer lined up so I could really lean on the tune. I was going to run a 9 @ 140mph or bend some rods.

Also Im fairly sure Im reaching the end of the holding strength of my reused bolts and new headgaskets. On the bigger pulls Im either pressurizing the coolant a TINY amount or there's a few hotspots in the engine causing localized boiling of coolant.

Temp never spikes and I can do pull after pull after pull on the street and never overheat the engine. Thats the part that make me think its hotspots and not a lifting head. Not sure though.

May look into a set of ARP bolts or studs and swap them out one by one and try again.

Do you have a ls1 style steam port? That helps a bunch with heat. On my fairmont I used 2 truck steam ports and t'd them together and that seems to work well too

I don't have them installed but I do have a pair of LS1 setups laying around. Did you boil over on long pulls? I'm unsure if it's a timing/boost thing or just a little boil over.

I may need to run two truck steam ports instead because of how I have my oil feed routing under the intake manifold.

At first I ran the Fairmont with no rear ports and it would have a slight rattle at wot around 6k sounded like preignition. I have pics of the plugs somewhere, but number 7 you could see was lean on the plug. I did the second steam port off the back and at the same rpm and boost the rattle was gone (or maybe slightly less audible?) But the plugs show it's happy now

Fair enough. Going to try and get that installed this week before I head back to the track. I'm getting tired of puking a little coolant out of the reservoir after big pulls. Well under an ounce, really only a tiny stream.

I had a head gasket fail bad before at 12psi and it blew off one of the hoses so I know it isn't "that" bad yet.

9 second 240

Man did I have a great day yesterday!

Trailered the car there just incase I broke.

Luckily it didnt and I slowly worked more and more power into the topend and brought boost in earlier and earlier. I was rewarded with a 9.99@140.57mph on my final pass of the day!!

21psi 14.5 deg timing
3320 raceweight.

Had a great day and met some cool people to at the track.

Even got to drive the car home afterward with my buddy driving the truck and trailer.

Thanks! It's been a bunch of fun. I have some good Gopro helmet footage too of all my passes. I need to put up my fastest one.

Gonna see if I can get that thread title changed again haha
