242GT 1979 Group C Race Car

To refresh here is what it looked like in terms of stickers/decals back in 1979 and for which we were aiming to replicate with a little bit of poetic license (and for longevity too) such as keeping the large Uniroyal sticker on front guards off the body mold, factory stripe and coming so far into rear wheel arches.

Here she is with original stripes on. We bought the stripe kit 3 years ago and as it turns out it was short approx 5 metres of orange tape. Absolutely lucked out in finding a local supplier that had some so the sticker guy was able to do the bonnet and the front spoiler. Had plenty of black. The shot below shows stripes missing off bonnet. This was prior to sorting the replacement tape issue out

Interior work has continued thanks to my partner in crime

Dash not in fully but you get the picture. Dash reconditioned by Roger P (thx) and with Rogers guidance we are also going to utilize the EGR light as the idiot light for the Oil Pressure and we will be running the gauge too. When racing idiot lights are worth their weight in gold.

Screens going in over the next 2 days

Firstly thanks for support.

Engine at this stage will be standard Australian/Canadian B23E engine spec. We are very limited in what we can modify within the rules so we intend to run standard engine for some time until we get car sorted. Plenty of improvement to be made in getting setup right, driving right then we will have a good look at rules to see what we can legally do. Engines have to be sealed by an appropriate eligibility officer and they check Bore, stroke, injection etc etc.

As far as exhaust goes because it is not road registered we only have to abide by the differing track rules and this will be no issues with exhaust below. It has a nice note

nice, side exhaust... i like it a lot. is it custom made from stainless steel? what diameter? do you plan to use this car only on race track or it will be street legal?

David

Mild steel as we will probably end up ceramic coating the whole exhaust and I will have to check measurements. Car is track only so dont have to worry about road regulations

Yet another late night in the shed by K.

Dummy tank and tow hook in and rear bar on to stay. Please note we have yet to fit the boot/trunk rubber so once we do the height of the boot lid will match the rear quarters.

I am having a leave day today and we are having another late night to try and get it essentially done. Lots of fiddly stuff to do though like sorting and testing dash wiring, gear shift screw mod, fit up interior, assemble internals of doors, etc etc

Little bit more sorted today. Next job is sorting the wiring out and getting the r sport dash all hooked up.

Here is a photo as she stood this afternoon. Front tow hook will sit back in further once we get it sorted properly. DVS front springs still to be fitted so it will most likely sit a little lower up front

We got the dash in today and sorted out all the electrical. We now have the dash fully functioning as well as all lighting. We can now put rest of dash back together and seats in. We plan to be finished next weekend then it will be off for a tune by a Volvo master mechanic as well as getting a wheel alignment. We plan to take it for a track shakedown on 18th April in preparation for our first race meet early in May depending on getting all Historic logbook stuff sorted.

Here is the dash fitted up for final time. Many thanks to Roger Patricio for reconditioning and the tips on using the EGR light for an idiot light for Oil pressure as well as the gauge. The R sport cluster is an awesome looking thing.

Next pictures should be interior complete with all seating and panels in place.
