tensioner might be making some noise...haven't pinpointed it yet (end of video clip).

So cool, I didn’t have any idea you were going 16v, this is exactly what I’d like to accomplish at some point 16V NA, maybe with ITBs at some point. Very cool man, congrats on getting it up and running.

I feel dumb admitting this, I honestly wasn't aware your could bolt and run a 16v head on a B21 block...I thought you had to start with a B23/B230 block for whatever reason...

Thanks!

Some others that have run the 16v B21 combo are:

For future reference, here are some of the major components I used:

-B23/230 head gasket (1378646)
-Melling VS1268 valve springs (97 Ford F-150 4.6L application)
-INA 034109309AD lifters (94 VW Golf 2.0L application)
-Loctite 510 to seal head/cam carrier
-INA 068109243F tensioner (86 VW TDI)
-146t belt (Gates 5129)
-KL Racing crank gear (00242)
-KL Racing aux gear (couldn't find a spare 16v cam gear at the time)
-Yoshifab short 004 distributor
-"crab" distributor cap (9170259)
-NGK HE57 plug wires (94 Honda Accord)
-modified B234 intake manifold (stock runner length, moved throttle body underneath for clearance)

Pardon the thread jack/ What’s not ideal about using a B21 vs a B2.3 block?

no worries...the diameter of the cylinders is slightly smaller on a B21 vs B23/230. The B234 16v combustion chamber is the diameter of the 2.3L bore so a slightly larger diameter than the 2.1L bore.

AFAIK the key is to use the larger B23/230 head gasket so that the fire ring matches the head.

Here are some pics of the head swap process for future reference:

I used a 1/4" x 1" woodruff key and filed it down to 6mm to fit the crank pulley/gear.

Also fixed the cam seal leak by using a Timken KWK99139 sleeve since the sealing surface on the cam seemed slightly pitted and seating the seal deeper did not work.

I can't see from the pics.... but will assume you used the flat top B21 pistons? What do you expect the static compression ratio to be?

Years back, somebody fitted the B204FT small 16V head to a B21F. From memory, the valves were less shrouded than yours likely are. HOWEVER, given the massive flow increase with the pair of valves vs. the single, I expect you'll be AOK. What HG did you use, an Elring composite or a MLS?

-revs more smoothly
-more torque throughout rev band
-4k+ is a good place to be
-it feels similar to when I initially did the +T to the car (13C @ 5 or 6 psi)
-took some adjusting to get the idle correct, but now it starts right up and idles normally

now, if I could only get rid of the T5 rattles...

-pics are hosted on imgur :e-shrug:
-yes, I did not change out the pistons, they are stock flat top B21F w/ reliefs cut in them via the Yoshifab jig
-not sure on the compression ratio
-HG is a Victor Reinz 1378646RE w/ copper spray

So how many miles/km now on this combo? Curious how the bambino B21 is liking all that head flow?

Also, curious why you stayed with the long runner intake & custom built the TB attachment, rather than Babb'sing the "short runners" and leaving the rest stock?

Give us an update.
