940 Turbo rubber fuel line under car

The short section between the hardline from the tank area and the pump inlet; what size hose is that and where can I get it? Every store around here only has 5/16" and 3/8" and this seems much bigger. On my car it has a barbed fitting halfway down with a schrader valve. Anyway after 26 years its soft and leaking and I'd like to replace with something rated for gasoline.
 
If you can get it, go for the highest PSI rated fuel line you can find. I’ve read too many stories of appropriate PSI rating failing. Not something to leave to chance.
 
I buy the correct fuel hose in bulk, it's a metric sized hose. I'll PM you later. I'll go measure the length from one of my cars as well.
 
For a genuine Volvo part. Tasca Volvo had a very reasonable price for a meter length section of that hose. It's 12mm ID metric hose. If you have a truck parts supplier near you. They will carry the 1/2" hose that is higher rated and works.
 
I recently had that same hose fail again on my 88 765. I went to NAPA to get a 12 inch length of 1/2 inch fuel hose. When I removed the leaking hose I found that it had same markings as my new hose. But it was rated for emissions. Yesterday I went back to NAPA and asked for red hose. This is what I got for $4.44 per foot:

Gates Plant Master Xtreme 325 Braid 1/2" [12.5]. It has black Viton inner tube, synthetic braid, and red Viton outer. And no, the 12.5 mm is not a typo. This hose is listed as MULTI-DUTY HOSE part number MSH H-1706
 
The OE spec hose used on the 9 series, leaving the in tank pump and heading toward the chassis pump, is NOT an inch spec hose. I found the PN by searching TASCAparts.com and ended up buying a meter from a Volvo Dealer in AZ. It is darn close to a 7/16" hose, and I've heard tell of some folks buying a truck sized fuel line to replace it. I know for certain it wasn't 3/8 or 5/16 (which are used in the engine bay on the fuel supply & return hoses connected to the engine). I know the 1 meter length was enough hose to do both of my 92 vehicles.
 
Looks as though the OE size comes closest to 15/32 inch. I've seen this size as OE on Fords. Good luck finding it locally.
 
I use Gates 7/16" fuel hose for that one. Fits and works great on probably 15 or 20 cars now. Go to a big truck parts supply and they should have it on the shelf for sale by the foot.

I'm looking on ACM.se at parts, and I need this fuel hose mentioned, so I figured I would look at what they have.

They sell only AN sizes. I think that was originally a US military spec.

Size AN-8 is 11.2mm ID, which is essentially 7/16".(EDIT: AN-8 is 1/2", not 7/16", see below) This is also a bit more of a standard sizing, maybe this would be easier to look for?

What are your thoughts?

Hoses are cut off a continuous spool. Charged per meter.
Roll length (longest continuous cut) is 15 meters.

Approved for gasoline, diesel fuel, water, air,heating oil and withstands higher levels of Ethanol up to E85

That means this hose can handle up to 85% ethanol in gasoline. Working temperature, -25 to 250 Degrees Fahrenheit

Working pressure 150 PSI, DIN 73379

The hose complies with the requirements of the standards SAE J30R7, ISO 4639-2

Not suitable for In-Tank applications.

-8 AN = 8/16 (1/2 inch) But you are correct on the hose ID. 11.17 mm. 7/16 = 11.11 mm

I finally got around to searching for this locally. I called around to all the local truck parts dealers (including the big Volvo one) as well as hose and line specialists, some that were recommended by my dad who is in the auto industry.

The only 7/16" I can find is rated at 35 PSI. (Link)

The standard sizes carried include 1/2" and 3/8". Those I can get rated up to 225 PSI. (Link)

I am in Canada, and can't order from Belmetric without paying $25 in DHL shipping (which means automatic brokerage fee too). Despite living in a semi metric country, I can't find anywhere local that sells metric fuel hose.

Would I be better off going with 1/2" @ 150-225 PSI, or 7/16" @ 35 PSI. Better pressure rating or better fit?
 
FWIW I have been running Earls 1/2" on mine for several years, GOOD clamps on it though, and I'm running a single in-tank pump setup so that hose will see as much as 70psi under boost. Had a clamp loosen up as the hose softened slightly after a few years, but otherwise no issues, running straight E85. No, it's not quite as snug as I'd like it, but it's also not flopping around on the hardline and it goes to an AN fitting on the other end anyway.

Finally replaced the hose yesterday.

Used 1/2" High Pressure (up to 250 psi) fuel hose. Didn't have many options, this was pretty much it.

I bought a 1 foot section and ended the job with about 3-4" left over. I also have a Schroeder valve plumbed into that hose, which reduced what I used by about 3/4". I have seen some cars without the valve, probably taken off when repairing.

Had a leak from the hose clamp to the plastic fuel line (from tank) but it tightened up fine.

Btw, if you need to adjust a fitting on the HIGH pressure side, make sure to use the valve to drain the pressure FIRST, otherwise you end up with a face full of gas when you loosen off the banjo bolt to rotate the hose that leads to the fuel rail.
