![]() I recently bought a bunch of tools from a 50-year Volvo independent dealer-turned-mechanic.
Some have the (I assume older) part number that starts with SVO, whereas others have the (newer?) 999-prefixed part number. Im not having a ton of success finding these tools based off the part number, some SVO tools I have found on Skandix but I can't find several 999 tools beyond what they are called. For example, I can find out that Volvo calls tool # 9995069 an "Extractor", but I have no clue what engine it would be used on. I bought tools from the following categories; "Engines" "Frame/Body/Brakes/Suspension" "850/P80" I also bought a ton of parts, kind of like that For Sale listing out in Delaware (but not as much). It has been super fun to go through! |

![]() Just replace SVO with 999 when searching.
Volvo has a special tools website. Only tools that are still available are shown however. https://volvocarstools.volvocars.biz/tools/search I have some old tool catalogs. Let me know if you can't find a tool and I'll see if I can help. 9995069 is a seal puller used on many engines and transmissions. Quote:

![]() Thanks very much! That tools website helps a bunch!
I have decades of Volvo microfiche parts catalogs, but need to replace the bulb on the system before I can read any. I also couldn't find any fiches that have a "tools" label or anything similar. I will do my best to identify what I can, and then come back and post a list of what I can't identify. Thanks again! |

What you might find is a microfiche that lists repair manuals, parts catalogs and tool catalogs. AFAIK, Volvo stopped updating their tool catalogs back in the late 1970's or early 1980's and we have what I believe to be the last version of a tool catalog Volvo published. I've asked several Volvo shop owners, some of whom worked for Volvo, and I even asked my local Volvo dealer parts and service departments and was told there was nothing available. So if you wanted a special tool you either had to own/buy the repair manual or get the service department to supply the part number. Our collection of tool catalogs covers Volvos back to the late 1950's, while the newest catalog we have covers up to early 240/260 Volvos.

![]() So after a couple hours working on this, I do indeed have a small list of parts that I need a little more info on, if anyone knows!
These were all in the "Engine" group of tools. Which appears to be entirely Redblock and earlier as I have seen some whiteblock tools in the "850" box that I haven't sorted yet. SVO 2424 - Some kind of handheld press tool 9992818 - Handle/Shaft 9992819 - Some sort of knurled cylinder SVO 2438 - Seal press ring? SVO 2439 - Large seal press ring? SVO 4865 - Seal Press? 9995012 - Pliers - Polyamide cable (5.8mm) install (for what?) 9995013 - Pliers - Polyamide cable (10mm) install (for what?) 9995024 - B230 Camshaft seal installer? Should be something B230 9995034 - "Counterhold" (for what?) 9995098 - Some sort of angle gauge, for what? I dont see how it would hold on a bolt. 9995268 - Small knurled handle/shaft Imgur Album Link Thank you! Last edited by G-Tech 940; 07-05-2020 at 04:12 PM.. |

Amazing! 4865 seemed like it could have been a home-made tool, and the number was only hand written. Not a big deal! I will be going through those other 2 boxes over the next little while, I'll post in here if there is anything I can't ID, but I'm hoping I can ID most of it. I also found this link which is a thread similar to this one that has some more obscure part numbers, I used this to find a few. Thank you very much!! |

![]() Recently acquired an old Baum catalog from a retiring Volvo mechanic and it actually lists a good deal of the parts used on the 240 series and maybe even later. I will try to get some scans or pictures of it and upload when I can. It actually also shows a nice little picture of the tool itself along with part number and short description.

![]() There's a great quality scan of the tool catalogue on 240.se
However it only covers tools for pre-240 models and is in Swedish only. I'm sure a lot of tools were still used in the later models though. http://www.240.se/litteratur/tp40002_2.pdf

![]() Is that why they come with those little hanger things? I swear almost all of the tools I have came with this little metal hanger that looks like you could attach it to a shelf or wire rack to store/display.

![]() That 240.se is a great resource for the older tools. I have some translating to do but I found some of the old stuff.
Still have a list of toold that I couldn't find any info on:] https://imgur.com/a/msRTT0Q (album link, I already figured out a few so didn't include on the list below) From the category "850/S80"; 999 5215 - 999 5534 - 999 5744 - and from the category "Brakes, Frame, Body, Suspension" SVO 2305 - 999 5041 - 999 5086 - 999 5028 - 999 5032 - 999 5040 - 999 5211 - I understand that some of those are just spring compressors but any additional info (which models applicable etc) would be awesome. Thank you! |

![]() When I bought volvo special tools many years ago. They used to come with the peg board hanger and a sticker to mark their location on the pegboard.

![]() 9995086 is the drift for the torque rod bushings on a 240. Might be used for other cars too but I know that from my compilation of 200 series specialty tools.
