Name this Volvo part, what is it?

Tonight on Name this Volvo part, 2turbotoys is wondering wtf this is and why it's in his garage. He has named it Fred but perhaps there is a more correct name. You can help with the first question! The only clue is it is a Denso something or other with a single wire connector.

That is the overdrive solenoid for an AW- 70/71 automatic transmission

Thanks! I have never had one of those so I'm not sure why its here. In the trash it goes, it is probably no good.

Just test it with a car battery. That part is worth over $100 new.

Even if it is bad you can sell it to someone who wants to dremel it for a bipass instead of buying the IPD bipass Kit.
