High-quality shop near NYC, Brewster, or Danbury?

I have a 740 that will need some work, most immediately suspension work. I'd like to find a quality race shop that understands old Volvos, understands suspensions, and can help me piece together a package that will help me achieve my goals with clarity. The phrases "corner balance" and "digressive valving" come to mind.

Am I living in a dream world? Would it be better to find a race shop or a Volvo shop? I'm expecting a tech to weigh each corner of the car, figure out a spring rate for the front and rear, and revalve a set of shocks and struts to match that spring rate, and install everything (perhaps with a proper alignment?).

The only classic Volvo shop I'm aware of is "Town and Country Auto Repair" in Pound Ridge NY. I spoke with someone there and they did not seem interested in anything that wasn't swapping on stock parts.

Good luck and I mean that.
Expect to shell out buckets of cash as everything will be custom one-off type parts. Ben (Kaplhenke.com) makes some stuff for your car but in such limited numbers it's still considered almost one-off parts. Small runs and one off parts get very expensive very quickly. Finding a shop that actually knows what they are doing and will do the work in a timely fashion at a rate that a normal Joe can afford is nearly impossible in the USA.

They made 200 series almost 20 years (well, '74-93 in Europe), and there's basically no single shop that specializes in those hardly anywhere USA.

The cars aren't worth enough, it's getting hard to find a one though.

7 series...ahahahahaha
People barely make parts for those as it is, and that's shrinking. Thank god. 2 series owners/cars are cheap enough.

I don't think your going to find a performance suspension tuner at a shop that specializes in Volvos. If you're really looking for a shop set up to produce race-caliber suspensions, I would give Speed Sport Tuning in Danbury a call. Their focus is on German marks, but they certainly know what they're doing. See if they'd entertain looking at your car...

There's a member on the board who does a lot of work I know that's who Ben BLKBPLAN is PM'ing you about. He's just got too much work right now to advertise publicly. Pure volvo specialist, with motor building, skills and connects for tuning as well.

I would say his shop is about 30-40min from the Danbury line tops

Thanks Ben and Travis  . If you have serious inquiries, PM me. My shop is in watertown, ct. Conveniently located off rt8 and rt84.

In the past, Viking Motorsports in Bedford Hills has been great for the 240s:

The owner Mike Dejohn really knows the vintage Volvos and if nothing else they can probably know all of the other garages in the tri-state.

Mike

Mike DeJohn was a Volvo CNA service rep back in the 80's- before he opened his shop - great guy. Last I heard he had some serious health issues, I don't think he has the shop anymore?
