Those would work from a width perspective, but I don't think they'd be tall enough on the sides to reach the stock mounting holes on the Benz seats. Any idea if they make the same thing, only with the sides being taller than 1"?

I might need those, but that's not the concern. It's more of whether the side part of those mounting plates is tall enough to reach up to where the bolts holes are on the sides of the seats.

Oh I gotcha. Reading comprehension for the win. You said side mounting them many posts ago and I missed it

No worries man. I appreciate you pointing them out to me. As cheap as they are, I'm going to order a pair and see if they will work.

Thanks,

-Ben

Looked everywhere, but I couldn't find those white hole plugs. I must have left them inside the car when it went to the crusher. Sorry!

Paint looks great! There's nothing like OG Volvo paint. I'm jealous of your lack of tree sap blemishes!

Updates for today:

Waiting for my new/used brake booster to show up, so I decided to pull out the carpet, rear seats, hat tray, etc to see what I had to work with, and to prep for the interior color change to black.

Staring point: Man, I LOVE this car. I had to run an errand and when I came back around the bend to my house and saw it sitting in the driveway, I felt like a kid at Christmas. :D

Pulled the rear carpet and discovered this:

Can someone please tell me why in the hell Volvo chose to stick those plugs in the floor, then seal them with seam sealer and undercoating, as opposed to welding them in? :grrr:

More in the next posts.

Continuing on.

A few minutes with a wire wheel on my corded makita netted this on the rear floors:

And yes, I got it cleaner than that, and down to bare, shiny metal everywhere that there was rust showing. I just forgot to take pics of it. You can see the rustoleum rust preventor applied to the rear floors in this pic (I'd decided to go ahead and pull the front carpet to inspect as well.)

Front had just a couple of spots of surface rust, (surprisingly, as both front floor plugs were loose as well...grr...) This is the only pic I got of the front areas, obviously post-application of rust preventor.)

So you can pull them when you derust the floors and rinse all the debris & chemicals out.

A little bead of urethane caulk will do when you reset them if you don't have seam sealer.

Pulling the hat tray, rear side panels, etc, to prep them to change the color to black.

That was it for today, at least during daylight. I've spent part of the evening scrubbing interior panels to get them prepped for changing them to black tomorrow.

More pics tomorrow night, as I should have about 99% of the interior plastics, rear side panels, and possibly the front door panels converted to black. Also, as a teaser, let's just say that the Mercedes front seats look KILLER in the car....

A few more pics, just for fun.

Tan interior that is 33 years old tends to fade out a bit....

It also does a GREAT job of soaking up dirt, grease, etc...

But, after cleaning it throughly, prepping it, and spraying it with interior dye, it cleans up pretty nicely. (This is a preview of what is being done to all of the remaining tan interior bits...)

Just put a spacer around the bolts going into the Benz seats. Like these but the right width and length... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...ZLTHSXyv06r76TDZ_DvAkaAoIi8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thanks again for the input and link to these Colin. They worked great! I had to drill some additional holes in them and cut a bit off the front of them, but they saved me a LOT of fabrication work! Pics will be coming by the end of the weekend of the seats mounted in the car!

Daily update:

due to delays in the postal service, my brake booster still didn't show up today (it arrived in KC on Thursday night and finally left there this morning,) so today was another day of working on the interior revamp.

Front seat is not quite finalized on it's mounts, but I ran out of daylight again and my one car garage doesn't leave much room for working on interior:

That's it for today. Tomorrow will hopefully get the driver's seat mount finalized, and maybe get the passenger door panel and glove box door changed to black.

Really glad they worked out, can't take all the credit though 240Keith gave me the idea!

Nice work Ben, that is going to look factory! Well if the factory cared about side bolstering...

Thanks man! It should do pretty well. The seats could do with a bit more bolstering on the lowers, but they are super comfy and the bolstering on the top is pretty good. :) Long term, it may get something more period-correct, but for the price, I couldn't pass these up! ($123.00 for the full set, including the rears.)

Daily update:

I got the front seats finalized and bolted in last night. They are a vast improvement over the stockers (my driver's side foam was collapsed, so it was not in good shape,) and they look pretty good in the car to boot!

Today, I spent the day doing paint correction on the car.

This was done in three stages: clay bar, machine polish with Meguiar's #83 on my PC orbital, then hand waxing with Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax.

Here are some before and after pics:

Now, for the frustrating ending to my day.

After finishing the waxing, I decided to take the car for a short drive around my neighborhood just to get it out and keep the battery charged. I got about 3 blocks away from the house and as I shifted into second gear to turn onto a side street, I lost all power and the car died. It will crank, but won't start. I tried pop-starting it and it would start for a second, but then immediately rev down and die again. Thankfully, my neighbor has a F-350 and a good tow strap, so he helped me get it back home.

So far, I've determined that I do have spark. That's as far as I've gotten in troubleshooting it, and frankly, I think I'm done for the day. Frustration has set in.

Any ideas what to check next? (I'm assuming obvious things like fuel pump fuses, fuel pressure (I don't have a pressure gauge, so I'll have to borrow one,) but what else?

-Ben
