I got this car December 04 for £350 off ebay. Its a 1989 740 B230ET with M46. It had 173000 Miles when i first got it.

Travelled down on the train then got a lift with Griz to pick up the car. Its then a 140 mile trip back home.

On the way, had a meet up with griz and chas

These were taken once she had arrived.

NB : Each post will be an update. lots more to come.

After running the car of a couple of weeks, its time to clean it up and fix a few issues

During this time, it had its first Turbobricks meet - UK meet 6. At this meet, one of the foglights decided to stop working.

After its clean up

fixed the light

At the end of February, the car had a service and a few other parts added to it

The back exhaust box bracket had broken just after I had the car so I found a way of routing the gases another way

Pete (chesh740r) had a spare silver splitter so we replaced the black one for a better look.

I had some driving lights left over from my old 745 so we fitted these to the car

They make a huge different to the light output.

Gave the car another good clean in April 05. The sun makes quite a difference to it looking good.

At the start of May 05, I had managed to get hold of a set of lowering springs and shocks from ebay. With Pete (chesh740R) and Griz's help, we got these fitted.

Some of the bolts need a bit of help.

The finished thing

These springs have made a huge difference to the way the car handles.

Besides the foglight what other things did you have to repair?

In December 05 with Dave's (volvorsport) help, the engine had some upgrades

A new t3/t4 hybrid turbo, K&N filter, Strut Brace, Baileys DB26 Dump valve, Chipped ECU and a new mbc.

This has made a big difference to the way the car drives. It pulls so much better when it is in boost and yet, if a lot more fuel economical under 2500 rpm.

Just a few niggles - bulbs in the dome light not working, glove box door coming loose, washer jets blocked etc etc.

Old and new together

kept the old dp so fitted an enlarger into the 3" pipe

Straight pipe to over axel bend

Over axel

Custom Hanger

last, a video of it. The noise level is too high for the mic but you will get an idea.

http://www.ryanniblett.co.uk/video/new exhaust.avi

A few problems with it.

First, the crossmember below the rear seats is a tad close to the exhaust and it bangs over every bump. I need to find a way of sorting this so if anyone has any ideas.

Second is the back pipe is about 3" too short so is hidden from the back when you look down. Also makes it very noisy in the car

Third is the noise. OMG this is loud. I was going to try it without boxes but I will be ordering one next week to go on the back.

Some genuine polaris came up on ebay but under a strange title. I watched them and in the end, bid and won them!

some pics :

Before :

During:

After :

And the best part, I paid less than £150 for 5 wheels, 4 of which have almost new tires.

And daytime pics.

Shame the sun wasn't out. The wheels have also been cleaned.

The new parts from Thailand (VBS) arrived this week. I got them sprayed up myself and put them on the car.

New parts

Snow cap

Clear Lenses

Sprayed up the cap and bottom of the lenses. The paint bubbled a bit on the bottom of the lenses but after a few coats, came up fine.

Painted the bulbs to make them amber for legal reasons. These came out way too dark so redid a spare set of bulbs a lot lighter. Didn’t look as good but provide the right colour of light.

The parts installed.

They do look a little strange but I think this is due to how clean they are compared to the rest of the car. They should look fine in a month or so.
