Update: It's colder than frig and my interior is about as durable as old bakelite so I flooded the switches with contact cleaner and worked them back and forth and that seemed to work.

Did the same exact thing to the old family 850 and never hurt it. Light would sometimes flash on upon start up and that was it. Boy did I feel dumb though.
