ground wire on alternator getting very hot.

http://aimpartsonline.com/reduce warranties

I *SUSPECT* bad CONNECTION (corroded / broken strands / failed crimp)...

do a Voltage DROP TEST and fab up a new BEEFIER ground that goes to a MORE
SUBSTANTIAL SPOT than the T-Stat housing....
FWIW I use a "pro crimper and then hit the END OF THE STRANDS sticking out of the
"crimp barrel" with SOLDER (makes for a good MECHANICAL as well as ELECTRICAL
connection)...YMMV....

did you try pulling the 1.21 gigaWatt stereo in the back??

yea first of all, that is not where you ground the alternator.

I believe that's the factory installed spot, shouldn't be a problem.

Do you have ground wire going from battery to engine block? The engine block needs to be grounded.

Do those voltage drop tests like TrickMick suggested.

The ground wire on the alternator is getting hot. And melting?
Any idea why?

Because it's bad. Replace it with a bigger one esp if you're drawing more current than the alt does normally.

And connect it to the block on one of the accessory bracket mounting bolts (700), IIRC both battery ground and alt ground goes on the same bolt. It shouldn't be mounted to the T-stat housing.

I did and how would one perform a voltage drop test? And no I didn't

Where would one correctly ground and alternator? Thats where I was when I took it apart.

From the factory, the alternator grounds to the intake manifold using the same bolt that attaches the intake manifold brace to the manifold. You can see it clearly in the attached picture.

Thats what I thought but on the intake in my car, the hole isn't threaded. I'm going to just tap the hole and put it there.

Thanks for the advice not the mellow dramatics. Douche.
 <obligatory rofl to appease the mods, not really tho>

I must have been stripped out. All B23/B230s use that same brace and attach it at the same boss on the intake manifold.

BTW, TrickMick has you pegged. If you don't get what the animated picture in his post is about, you want to be spoon fed. I agree with him completely. Calling him a DOUCHE for implying that you need to get off your a$$ and be willing to do the work required gets you right on my no help anymore list. And guess what? That's not a good place to be. 85% of the advice on this board is given by members that heard something once, way back, and they distort what they heard. You have acted like an a$$ since you joined. Once people here get an impression of who you really are, you are going to get very little from them. Good luck from now on. You are certainly going to need it. :)

There are only a handful of people on this forum who have great automotive knowledge and take the time to answer simple questions such as yours. TrickMick is one of those and he takes the time to lead you to the correct solution so that you learn why not just how.
You will get little help from others if you disparage help like his.

More than willing however, missing a link because i'm trying to multi-task at work is no reason to name call. Thanks for the advice.

If you can't be humble, why name call. Unless you're an immature 16 year old boy. Just shows your level of self-esteem.

And on that note. The number of people who have joined left, come back and left again because of the arrogance of some of the members here is sad. Don't act high and mighty because I poke fun back differently than you. To each his own and just because you have knowledge in a certain field doesn't empower you to give advice at the cost of being able to say whatever the hell you want. Some people just want guidance and last time I checked thats not permission to ridicule.

Anyone remember TFT?

I don't act high and mighty. I call people out on their BS. That is what just happened to you. You can choose to CRY about it, or as Judge Joe would say, you can "Man up". Re-read the thread so far. You chose to me call because your fragile ego was hurt. Keep it up and I'm going to name you Cry babie Bobby. I wil bet that will stick like Super Glue. :)

Thats fine. If name calling makes you feel better. My ego is in the same place it was before. Non-existent. Don't try to reflect your dismay onto me. I'm rubber you're glue attitude is amusing at best. But still shallow. :) <3

Rubber, man I haven't heard that since 3rd grade. It clearly demonstrates who you are. You are just reinforcing my first impression of you. I tried to give you the chance to man up, instead, you chose to double down. Cry Babie Bobby it is. Embrace it, you earned it.

You have achieved a status nobody else here ever has, the first to make it to my ignore list, since you have absolutely nothing to offer to this Forum other than whining. Nice job.

Going to get some new connectors and a larger gauge wire tomorrow. I like the way it looks in the picture posted so hoping the threads will clean up on the intake manifold instead of on the thermostat housing.
