I plasti-dipped my 780 Bertone.

For all those concerned about how durable it is.... there are many youtube videos put out by dipyourcar.com and other sites that show how durable it is, and standing up to 100psi pressure washers. The main areas of concerns are the hood and trunk, where you would grab underneath to lift it up. Gotta be careful of those areas, as they only pretty much have overspray on the undersides, and can peel easily. The more coats you do, the more durable it is. I've scrubbed the hell out of my car in self car washes, and pressure wash rinse with no issues at all. For what it is, and the cost related, it's a cheap way to change the look of your car. It's not meant to be a high-end paint job by any means. Again, i painted mine in a barn/garage whilst drinking beers. Best part to me, is letting it drip dry and only drying the glass and chrome areas. No clear coat means no water spots.

I like it. I saw it at Carlisle and thought that was yours. I had a funny comment, but mrbrickdriver sent me a PM telling me I was a jackass so I edited it.

I'm sorry I hurt your feelings bro. /super legit not sarcastic at all apology.

I've plasti-dipped the wheels sold to me by the OP...

In New York, I'm not sure how much you can care about the rarity of a Volvo of this ilk if you're owning it and driving it through our winters, but I'm sure you can enjoy the look he's created here which can only help preserve whatever is left underneath the plastic. I say he should enjoy his result, and if it motivates him to perform the next $1000+ service instead of junk the car, is the dip ruining the car or saving it?

I love all the hate and hilarity in this thread. This was sprayed in my shop and I think it's badass as all hell. Just like Jesse, I "heart" haters. Lol. In the end, it's your car. Do what you want with it! Personally I love this and think it's kickass.

I thought that might be the case. :) mr brick driver is WAY to concerned about the fate of all the vintage Volvos. I told him the other night on the phone, "at least you are taking care of the car. It could be way worse. You could be one of those on here that pulls the GOOD parts off a 780 and then, CRUSHES IT."

2manyturbos: The frame was bent and i was being threatened by my landlords attorney to have it removed from the property before someone was injured on the car. Don't be that forum ******* that thinks his snide comments won't be seen.

Some of you are already familiar with my car. The paint was looking tired and worn. So i decided to spice things up. I painted it myself, in Pete's (flyingtog) garage. Olive Drab with military style stencil "STRV 103C" is a swedish tank from the early 90's. I felt it was fitting. Hope you enjoy.

Jesse- amazing job, it caught my eye at Carlisle instantly. The at home spray booth was pretty sick too. Let me know if you need another underspoiler/other parts.

Lol. Guilty conscience? I don't know you or anything about you. My statement was a generalization about the fate of so many cars that pass through T-Bricks members hands. I plan on sending a 780 to the crusher later this week. It is hit so hard the rear bumper is literally right under where the rear window used to be. Some just can't be saved.

Cool; that's the sort of info I was looking for; it's well and good watching the youtube stuff, but first hand experience is a lot better (esp when it's not the manufacturer doing it!)

I'd not thought about the areas where you would make contact with on a regular basis as being the area where the plastidip is most at risk. If you sprayed around and up to the trim/rubber that could help?

I definately think opening the trunk, hood and doors and spraying the fine round edges would help a lot with this situation. Basically creating the "edge" much further from where you would grab.

There's a guy around here who shot his STI in plasti dip for over a year now, still looks good. He drove through the winter as well.

Removable (spelled correctly)

Just doing my part to help feed the trolls.

Nice. You win.

I'm surprised at the haters in this thread, guess they don't realize that he did nothing damaging to the car? All while most likely improving the resale value?
As for the "rare," while it's not a common vehicle could find at least 5 for sale within 4 hours of me on Craigslist at any given time. Rare 80's cars would be CSX or Saleen or 1LE F-bodies, or even the elusive 89 Turbo Trans Am.

As for my opinion, I hate it. Not the car, but the color. But that's just my opinion, and I can see that it looks so much better than it did before the dip. I like the matte finish on cars with sharp lines and edges, but the green just doesn't do it for me. And it's not my car, if he loves it then that's what really matters.

I definately think opening the trunk, hood and doors and spraying the fine round edges would help a lot with this situation. Basically creating the "edge" much further from where you would grab.
It takes a little finesse to blend the curve around the lips of the hood and doors, but it can be done. It would take some big debris to grab it, and the wind is only an issue if it isn't properly prepped or is scratched to the metal.

That's a good shot.

I said it before and i'll say it again. Sure, it's rare. But it's still a Volvo. The rest of the world doesn't give a **** about it.
