about 6 months ago i went to auto toyz in a local mall and was looking to lower my car (1989 760 Turbo). the guy there ordered me these springs from B&G:

after letting them sit in my garage for a few months in finally decided to install them. i got the front ones in no problem but ran into difficulties when i was ready to put in the rear springs with the IRS.

-i am just wondering will these rear B&G springs fit with my stock suspension system or will i need to get the nivomat conversion?

-if i do have to get the nivomat conversion will the springs i bought work with the shocks or will i have to use the springs that come with the shocks?

the rear B&G springs seem to be quite long with a small diameter:

my local volvo specialist says that they are not able to install these rear springs without buying new shocks for $600 each... do they mean i have to buy new self leveling shocks in order to use the b&g springs?? any help would be appreciated

IRS car doesn't use the same springs as the solid axle. On an IRS car, the Nivomat shocks "pump up" as they bounce (in concert with weak, springy, springs) to provide a level ride across a variety of weights in the back of the car.

The solid axle car relies on stiff springs and shocks with no pumping-up capability. They also mount differently (both placement and method).

Best thing for you to do would be to look at the back of both types of car and see. There's also info on converting from Nivomats to other shocks/springs, as well as lowering info.

Check here AND on brickboard.
