I just posted in performance and forgot to ask. so here goes.
I know that the early 80s b230 and the later models have a different bottom end setups making the newer models stronger. however if I am going to make a performance b234 . I need to know if the bottom end is strong enough to withstand 200-260Hp. Is the block the same as the early b230 or the later and more stronger (b230 89- 94)..
thanks in advance
Matt
89 740gl wagon. even my dads first car a 164e was faster

The initial answer is neither. The block for the B234 is it's own design with balance shafts for smoother engine operation. I would think it is still strong enough for the kind of power you are looking for. After all, the B204FT is 185hp and the B204GT is 200hp. They are also 16v motors that were turbo from the factory. Your block isn't an issue you'd have to worry about from what I've learned about these motors.
